• Type of Hay: It is important to pay attention to the type of hay that you are purchasing. Some types of hay are better for rabbits than others. I personally just choose to feed my rabbits a plain ole’ grass hay. Many rabbit breeders choose to feed their rabbits an Alfalfa hay because it contains a good amount of protein. Just make sure that you give your rabbits a relatively soft hay for them to make their nest out of. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t like to have to lay in a nest made out of sharp and prickly hay. • Age of Hay: When purchasing rabbit hay you need to make sure that it is fairly fresh and not some old stuff that has been sitting in a barn for years. If you want to tell how old hay is try smelling it next to some that you know is fresh. If the hay is old you most likely will smell the difference. But, ultimately the decision is up to your rabbits. If they like it or not, will determine whether or not they eat it.
