Featured Rabbitry #7: Stump Acres Rabbitry. An interview with the owner of Stump Acres Rabbitry- Paula Faubush.

1: Tell us about your rabbitry… Stump Acres is a small commercial rabbitry, located in southern Oregon. Currently, we have about 50 does. We will eventually expand, but are holding off, so that it doesn’t come at the expense of our already existing stock.
2: What rabbit breeds do you raise and why? We raise New Zealands in white, red, black, and blue, with all colors also available in broken. We also raise Californians and Flemish Giants. Our rabbits are mainly used for meat, though I do raise some for show.
3: About how long have you been raising rabbits? We have been raising rabbits for three years. Our main goal was meat for our own table, but it grew far and fast.
4. Who has helped you the most with your rabbit project? I have been very lucky to meet some great rabbit breeders all over Oregon. Expanding from our plan of two does and a buck was quite accidental, but has been a great success because of all the advice and help of others. My husband has truly been a saving grace and extremely supportive with everything. When we began this venture, I really only had what I had read in books and in online forums. Now, I strive to always be available to anybody that has questions or needs help, whether they purchase rabbits here or not. I don’t want anyone to feel lost or frustrated because they feel like there’s no help out there.
5. What is your favorite rabbit memory or experience? My family has learned to eat, sleep, and breath rabbits right along side of me. It seems that every time we leave the house, we take rabbits with us. So, one day, my then 3-year-old was in the back seat and started screaming, “Mom! Mom!” She was really carrying on. I stopped and asked her what was the matter and she told me that I had forgotten to take some rabbits with me. It was cute, though I did wonder if maybe it was a sign that I had gone off the rails.
6. Do you currently have any rabbit stock for sale? Currently, we have red, white, blue, and agouti New Zealands (most colors are available in broken too). There is wait on white does. We also have Californians ready to go. We always have rabbits available and if there is a particular color or trait that you are looking for, feel free to let us know. If there is something that we don’t have or can’t breed, we’re always happy to refer folks to someone reputable.
