Have you made the big decision to become a rabbit breeder? If you are looking for rabbit breeder information, resources and advice then this article is definitely for you…
As I discussed in the last article of our rabbit breeders informational series, people choose to raise and breed rabbits for a multitude of different reasons. Before becoming a rabbit breeder it is important to choose a purpose for your rabbitry. It is hard to become successful in the rabbit industry unless you define your idea of success. What is the goal of your rabbitry? … Do you want to produce quality show animals? Raise rabbits for meat? Simply an enjoyable hobby? Looking to start a profitable enterprise?

Just because I said that too many rabbits get abandoned each year, does not mean that their isn’t a large enough market of potential buyers to sell rabbits to. Steps to Becoming a Successful Rabbit Breeder
Step 1: Do your research- In my opinion the rabbit raisers that dedicate time to researching their project are the ones that are most successful in the long run. I know from personal experience that it can be difficult “getting information out of people”. Some people simply “hoard their secrets” in an attempt to stay competitive. I believe this is the wrong approach, which is one of the reasons why I wrote a comprehensive book on raising rabbits titled Raising Rabbits 101. In the 163 page book I share a lot of information which the rabbit newbie isn’t likely to find elsewhere. Step 2: Select a Rabbit Breed- Once you have done your research on getting started, it is time for you to select a rabbit breed which will fit your needs and rabbitry’s purpose. In Raising Rabbits 101 I have dedicated a whole section to discussing breed selection and have recommended different breeds of rabbits according to your purpose for breeding.
Step 3: Order Rabbit Breeder Supplies- After selecting a rabbit breed it is important to order the right supplies for your rabbit(s). It is a good idea to take into consideration the size of your rabbit breed before making a purchase. For instance, certain rabbit breeds will require larger rabbit cages than other breeds would.
Step 4: Find a Rabbit Breeder- Once you have done your research, picked out a rabbit breed and ordered your supplies you can begin searching for a rabbit breeder. I created rabbitbreeders.us to help make this process easier for you. You can use our state rabbit breeders index to search for local rabbit breeders in your state. We also have a breed index which allows you to search for rabbits by breed, and a BRAND NEW meat pen rabbit breeders list!
